Standing out in a sea of gorgeous people is the most challenging part of being a fashionista. Mastering the art is even harder.
I'd say a lot of planning with a touch of pixie dust got me a mention on the newspaper after stealing the scene at the three-day Saskatchewan Fashion Week 2016. Thanks to the very observant lifestyle columnist, Irene Seiberling of the Leader Post.
But don't fret anymore, because I came up with a list of tips to make you the person that subtly gets the attention without screaming for it. The goal is to elegantly stand out!
Below are the tips and tricks I follow to get you noticed:
1. Choose a statement piece on your wardrobe.
In an outfit, always make sure that you're wearing something that is going to be a conversation starter. Make sure that you have a unique piece. It does not have to be new. It would be even nice if you get it from your Mom's closet. Do ask permission though!
2. Take mirror-selfies and EDIT! EDIT! EDIT!
Not all outfits are created equal. Some outfits may look nice on your favourite celebrity but might look a little off when worn by you. Let's accept it. Most celebrities have experienced stylists do the arduous task of thinking which outfits work for them. So make sure, that you have tried it on in front of the mirror a number times. And don't be afraid to ask your most stylish friend or maybe ask me - I am your friend!
3. Know which parts to conceal and which parts to flaunt.
If you feel comfortable and confident showing-off your shoulders and your arms, then wear something that flaunts it. If your legs are your best asset then wear a shorter skirt or shorts. I hope by now, you have figured that out. If not, then look at yourself in the mirror and do some poses. I'm sure your friends have told you at some point that they wish they had your slender arms. I believe that you don't have to expose all your best assets. Choose one. Expose your arms or your legs. Skin attracts attention! So let the attention go to the best parts of your body.
4. Practice putting on make-up weeks before the event.
You might find it funny, but I did practice putting on make-up weeks before the Saskatchewan Fashion Week. It sure was not perfect the first time but I learned from it. Practice makes perfect! It sure costs a lot to have someone do it for you. When you get a professional make-up artist do it, make sure that you ask the person to try it on you! They have the tendency to put too much. Plus its always nice to discuss with your make-up artist the look that you want to achieve for the event.
5. Black is everything and let the accessories do the magic!
If all outfit ideas don't work, choose a simple black ensemble. Black is always elegant. The trick is to put on accessories that get the right amount of attention. When it comes to accessories, my golden rule is "The bigger - the bettter!"
6. Be comfortable in your own body!
Smile to people and feel fabulous. If you don't believe that you have the best outfit then it will translate to your body language. Stand straight and make your individuality shine through.
What do you think about the above tips? Is there anything you want to add from it? Tell me in the comments below.
Turning 31 has never been this fabulous and I couldn't be more thankful to God for all the blessings that he has kept on showering me. Thankful that no matter how bad I've been, he never grew tired of giving me the everything He thinks I deserve.
They say all we need is love and I got it. Who would have thought that my Mom will be able to make a birthday collage for me on Facebook. That's so rare! But the photos she chose were a little embarrassing but never short of love.
I have always believed that we get what we give. I must have given so much love for the world has loved me more than I can imagine. These birthday greetings from my friends all over the world were more than enough to let me feel it.
And though I've only been in Regina for a year and 4 months, my Regina friends did not fail to show me some love too.
I've never really wished for some more gifts because love was just enough. However, when I saw gift boxes I couldn't help but be so giddy to open it just like a little kid.
Here are the gifts I received last Christmas and some gifts I got from my birthday. You may find this useful for yourself or get an idea on what to give to your friends on their special day too.
My cousin-in-law, Mae, knew that I always show up at work without a pen in my purse or pocket. So when I find a lonely pen on a table, I adopt it. Hahahahahaha!!! She probably felt that I should stop adopting pens and its time to bring my own pen at work. I got three pens and its on the photo below.
I also got a Born Lippy lip balm and a travel-sized Mango Shower Gel both from The Body Shop. I am really hoping that I'd get to use the lip balm because I tend to lose it a lot because of its size. I can't afford to lose it though because the harsh, dry and cold winter prairie winds have been giving me chapped lips. Click HERE to get to The Body Shop Canada. To be honest, I have not been very vocal about this but I actually like shower gels. They leave very little residue on your skin allowing it to absorb other things you apply on it.
This cute Chanel-inspired-perfume-bottle iPhone 6 case from Ardene is so lovely! I like how its transparent and gold. You can never go wrong with these colors. I tried to see if its still available on their online store but looks like its been sold out. But you can click HERE to find other cool iPhone 6 / 6s cases at Ardene.
She also knew that I have a weird addiction to Reese's Pieces. Not everybody can relate to peanut butter cups, right? So for PLM (People Like Me) click HERE to have your sweet tooth cravings gratified.
Raffaello's, from the makers of Ferrero Rocher, are my favorite too. Its the closest I can ever get to tasting the tropics. And you can have it delivered on your doorstep via Amazon! Click HERE!
Ate Eds, one of my friends from my first workplace since I arrived in Canada gave me something to warm me up this season. Crimson is the color of love! I think she knitted this on her own. That I will have to confirm though.
I think I can really be a good matchmaker someday because I did a very good job on these two - Joanne and RJ! They knew I am a big fan of not-so-common sunglasses. So they gave me something from Zumiez.
I always ran out of battery and always charging wherever I get the chance to. I don't care if its in a restaurant, a car, or just anywhere. My mantra? "I need my phone charged. NOW!" I am just being a true millennial. So Jeff being my only gay friend in Canada was so thoughtful! He gave me this 4400 mAh power bank from PDI. In layman's terminology, it can fully charge a smartphone 2.5x. Sounds good to me! I can post more videos on Snapchat, pictures on Instagram, and just a whole bunch of things. Just because my fingers won't stop tinkering on something. You can do the same by getting your own power bank. Click HERE!
Friendships can actually be the most random of all things. I came to know a friend named Mye from last year's Erik Santos and Angeline Quinto Concert here in Regina. I hosted that concert too. She was just the sweetest and the most generous! She gave me these sunglasses. One is from Aldo and the Prada was from her trip to the US last August. I love the sunglasses so much! I have an endless choice of sunglasses already and I cannot complain. I love it a lot!
You know how the Sephora ladies seem to know so many things about beauty and all you do is listen to them. I listen to them a lot and they have never disappointed me at any point. I think they are the most helpful even in full make-up glory.
I received my first Sephora birthday gift EVER - a luxurious Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel and Cucumber Gel Mask! I've been using First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser and I actually loved it until I lost it somewhere. I don't know where I have left it. Probably left it at my old apartment. So this new product they gave me was just amazing and it came at the right time. I can't wait to give it a try and do a much more in-depth review of this product.
This is actually a Christmas gift I got from my Secret Santa, Joanne. She bought it from Sephora too. I would like to call her a not-so-secret secret santa because she was actually very vocal that she was my secret santa and the whole time I thought she was just joking. Until I opened the gift and got myself a 1 Million Deluxe by Paco Rabanne. Personally, I wouldn't have picked it for myself but it always excites me what someone will come up with as a gift when they think of me. I love surprises and this was a million dollar smelling one. Kaching!
Another sweet surprise are these Kate Spade swag from Airah and Rizzia! I love Kate Spade so much. I think it is one of the chic-est brands without even trying to be one. I like how its expensive but not-outlandish expensive compared to all the other luxury brands out there.
Gift-giving won't be complete without having to gift myself. Hahahahahaha!!! I know! I love gifting myself so much. I call it self-love! All because we work hard and we have to treat ourselves to something that makes you feel a little vindicated. That was a big word! VINDICATED!
So I got myself a Ray-Ban sunglasses because I think its a style staple. I can get out of the house wearing a white shirt and a black pair of shorts and white sneakers and still look on-point! I got it from Spareparts and it came with a hard case from the store with its pretty lens cleaner. I think its my best-buy this season. I am super loving this!
Thank you so much guys for reading. I hope you had a good holiday. I had such a great time in Regina though I was working on those days you were off. But I can't complain, I love what I'm doing and I love getting paid. Hahahahahaha!!!

Hope to see you guys soon! VitoriVita's always open!
Have a great day!
If you are the kind of person who takes "Netflix and chill" seriously, there is only one show you should watch - The Last Kingdom.
The Last Kingdom is a British television series from the same people that gave us Downton Abbey. The eight-part adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s historical novels series The Saxon Stories premiered last October 2015 on BBC America and has been on my Netflix "To Watch" List for a week.
The story revolved around the attack of the Vikings on the Anglo-Saxons. Rotten Tomatoes tells it this way, "Uhtred, born a Saxon but raised by Vikings, finds his loyalties tested as he tries to claim his birthright and help create a new nation."
So what's so charming about the TV series? Let's see what the critics are saying.
TV Guide Magazine's Matt Roush wrote, "This is smart, satisfying entertainment that brings new life to ancient history."
Ray Rahman of Entertainment Weekly even said that the shifting allegiances and unpredictable motives are what keeps this sometimes hoary show compelling.
And why does VitoriVita like it so much?
I like it because the cinematography was jaw-droppingly gorgeous and the storytelling was impeccably understandable and entertaining even to those who have no prior reading on the history of England.
Alexander Dreymon aka Uhtred of Bebbanburg, the main character of the TV series is an eye-candy and I don't mean to be shallow but he is very irresistible.
I also found out that he made a movie with the Fil-Aussie actress Anne Curtis-Smith, Blood Ransom. I remember admiring the handsome guy from Anne's promotional Instragram photo but never thought he'd be given the chance to star in a very big production like The Last Kingdom.
I cannot wait for Season 2. So while waiting for the next season you can binge-watch the first season of this popular TV series. I assure you that it will not disappoint.
