I love weekends. I think it is one of the best times to recover from a weeks work. And its quite precious these days. I rarely get weekends off or should I say I've never had a weekend off since I came to Canada. So even if it is not my day off, I always say "YES!" to weekend invites.
I once asked my friend Ralph to bring me somewhere beautiful. And he told me that he has tried this beautiful crepe place somewhere close to where he lives. I remember how he was raving about it the last time we talked. So when he invited me for lunch, I asked my cousin-in-law, Mae, to come along as she sure was hungry after her bathing suit shopping. I couldn't be even happier because he offered to pick us up or maybe I made it sound like I needed ride. Hahahahaha! Nonetheless, I was just happy he picked me up because the crepe place he was talking about was in the northern part of Regina. How could I forget that he lives in the north and I live in the south and that a roundtrip taxi ride costs $56.
I ordered Marokena Chicken crêpe ($9.95) as the beautiful waitress said it was their best seller and got a large Berry Berry smoothie ($5.95)
Their Marokena Chicken was made from home cooked chicken breast, bacon, sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese. Oh my! Such pleasures on the palate! I just want to succumb to it.
The Berry Berry smoothie was a bit seedy, grainy, or however you want to describe it! I just thought it wasn't a very smooth smoothie after all. Hahahahaha! I should've not wondered because it was made from mixed berries and the good ol' bananas and milk.
Their washroom mirror was so chic I wanted to take it home.
I'm sure all their other crepes like this one from their Sweet Crêpes list are worth the try. Mae, Ralph's wife said it was so good. She finished before I could even give it a taste.
We had such a great time catching up over good food and yes... good food!
If you're around Makati, Greenbelt has a decent crepe place I really love - Cafe Breton. Check it out from my old blog.
Marokena Crepe Cafe is located at 5950 Rochdale Boulevard, Regina, SK S4X 4J7 and check out the map below for your convenience. I don't know if they accept reservations but I am sure if you have any inquiries, they're more than happy to answer you through this number (306) 352 - 7373.
If you've tried Marokena before, drop a comment and let me know what you think about it. Looking forward for that!
Have a great weekend loves!
My body has adjusted quite well to the extreme cold weather of the Canadian prairies but its not without having to experience some episodes of being "under the weather." Don't be deceived though, I was wearing a winter coat before this photo was taken.
It was my last day at my part-time job and so I thought it was a good time to unwind and catch up with my cousin-in-law and her friend who is visiting from Saskatoon.
I specifically requested that we try Atlantis Coffee Co. as I've always imagined myself inside their cozy couches while sipping a good dose of caffeine. Oh that fireplace and the immaculate heat!
The exteriors does not look much though but when I saw this last summer it was teeming with people. They usually put some chairs and other furniture outside.
It can be quite dizzying to be looking up for their coffee menu. My tip: The moment you get inside the door, don't move too close to the order counter just yet. This gives you enough distance (If you have good eyesight...) to browse at their list.
I ordered Caramel Mocha and asked the barista to put only half of the sugar that supposed to be there. He just smiled sweetly. So sweet I could go "sans sucre" or no sugar at all on my coffee. I also got a piece of Coconut Macaroon, which reminds me of a posh version of the Goldilock's macaroon.
Oh how I love to be surrounded with artworks all for sale by local artists. Please don't mind the men unless you want to. Quite an eye candy though! *wink*
The happy bunch at the coffee shop. Mae, my cousin-in-law and her friend April with daughter Leila from Saskatoon who's in Regina for the weekend.
It was such a short meet up but April is coming back this week for some business meeting with me. I couldn't wait for it. So glad this country gives us countless opportunities and I am so excited to share it with you guys!
Have you tried Atlantis Coffee Co.? You might want to share your experience on the comment box below.

Located conveniently along 1925 Albert Street, this restaurant is very easy to spot. I've been here thrice and it has always been at lunch time. And always when we pick up my Aunt from work. This is her favourite restaurant, I can tell.
The moment I got out of the car, I can already smell MSG! Nobody has proven that MSG is bad though. So you need not worry. Hahahaha!
Menu looks classic in leather-ish design. I wonder how many more restaurants in Regina have the same menu casing.
Aunt Marilou is one of the nicest person I've met in Regina but we'll see how she'll react when she learns that I posted a photo of her on my blog without make up on her birthday. Shelley, her youngest daughter knows what to order already. She said, "Ma, I want 102!" With that she meant, Boneless Pork.
Honestly, this restaurant does not have the best interiors. I think it has been like this since it started.
But you'll wonder because by 12 noon, it was already full even with their not-so-friendly staff. I was already thinking that food must be good. I just wished they could have been nicer.
Their spring rolls are the best. I can't stop raving about it!
Now, that's 102! I'm usually good with one serving of the meat. Its already called gluttony if I consume the other slice. I do know though that I can still finish another slice.
Sweet and sour pork was a total disappointment. Coated with a thick layer of dough, I hardly recognized the meat inside or was there meat inside? I can't tell!
I only finished 1/4 of the serving and brought everything home. They don't care about plating and from the looks of it, those who came for lunch did not bother to request for it anyway. I just always have to remind myself that this restaurant does not need those because their food sells anyway.
Their noodles, whatever kind it was, was just okay.
Topic for lunch was the Cousin Forever Christmas Dinner 2014, how it feels like to be going home to the Philippines and the orders of other customers from the other tables. Hahahahaha!
Overall, the experience at Viet Trung Garden was good. The guy who was a little rude about my fried rice choices was a little nicer the second time he came back. I was just trying to think that his tone was like that because he was not a native English speaker.
Please don't order the Sweet and Sour Pork, it was really a traumatic experience ordering that. Still, 102 is the best. Boneless Pork, for the win!
I'll definitely comeback. Maybe I'll find some dish that I've never tried that I may really like. This lunch is not about me before I forget. This is Aunt Marilou's birthday celebration and what matters most is she's happy.
Before I go, I want you to see my fortune cookie.
I don't know who I'll have to listen to to come out ahead. But yah, hopefully it happens. Oh these fortune cookies!
